About
I’m Abhijit Sengupta and I’m an outdoor advertising professional, heading OAP which is one of the leading outdoor specialist agencies in India.
I joined OAP in 2002 after many years at some of the most innovative and reputable companies in the advertising business (my 20 years in the business also covers time at Selvel, Ogilvy, Grey, Primesite of Mudra and MOMS of Madison).
I love the outdoor adverting industry and although I would class myself as a sales man though and through, I enjoyed lots of experiences selling in many other fields before I settled I this one.
These previous ‘lives’ included selling door to door selling (vacuum cleaners and medicines), hand-painted intro slides to the movie industry and self-manufactured plastic carry bags to vegetable markets. The latter was a very creepy, but fascinating learning experience.
I’ve also painted shop shutters for ThumsUp, designed and manufactured an polythene extrusion machine (don’t ask) and can operate both a lathe and welding machine (if I ever have to). These jobs, whilst inherently rewarding didn’t pay the bills, so I didn’t stay very long.
So where am I now?
Well, I love as well as hate the outdoor industry. I love it because it’s so disorganized, full of surprises and opportunities. And I hate it for the same reasons. One thing is always a constant – I still have so much to give.
From a personal point of view I love sports. I played soccer until my knee swelled up and cricket after my waistline did the same. I have a great relationship with my staff at OAP India and our team sometimes does very well taking on rivals on the pitch. This has largely, nothing to do with me.
I enjoy a new challenge and that’s why I started blogging my business adventures.
I promise to be open and honest, I just ask that you join me for the ride…
